WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Driving by, you may have noticed a large "X" on one of the runways at Wilmington International Airport. The runway is closed because the FAA is installing a new navigational aid.
Basically, it's new lights and signals that will help a pilot keep the plane vertically and horizontally in position as it approaches the runway at night, or during bad weather.
The runway is closed for work during the week, but it's open during the weekend. ILM leaders say the airport's other runway is open, so this is not interfering with any air traffic.

Thank You
A concise factual account that tells the story. Thank You.
ILM
A good story, but the crucial fact for pilots is which runway is closed. Was it 17/35 or 6/24?
Duh...
If a pilot is depending on WWAY for which runway is closed, he should not be flying in the first place.
