Hopes high as first pitch nears at UNCW

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Seahawk baseball fans wonder if this will be the year UNCW makes it back to the NCAA tournament.

Today was Media Day at Brooks Field. Players and coaches discussed what it will take for the Seahawks to win the CAA.

UNCW is second in the pre-season conference poll, right behind James Madison, which won the Colonial last year.

"We're extremely excited about getting started a week from now," Coach Mark Scalf said. "We've been blessed like everyone else with the warm weather in January and into February. That's given us a chance to get a lot of work in. Hopefully that pays dividends for us once the season starts."

UNCW has a challenging schedule. In addition to playing many of the top regional teams, the Seahawks will play at Mississippi and TCU.

The Diamond Hawks open the season next Friday at home against Ohio. First pitch is at 4 p.m.
