Highlights and final scores from week nine of the high school football season.

The Cape Fear Academy boys soccer team had no problem getting past their second round opponent in the NCISAA Class 3A State tournament on Thursday. The Hurricanes scored three goals in the first half on their way to the 7-1 win over Arendell Parrott. 

The Hoggard boys soccer team scored two goals in the second half on Thursday night to take down Laney in Mideastern Conference play, 3-1. 

Seahawk fans will have an opportunity to meet and listen to third-year basketball coaches C.B. McGrath and Karen Barefoot at the upcoming UNCW Basketball Tip-Off Luncheon. The 10th annual event, featuring an all-you-can-eat buffet, takes place on Monday, Oct. 21, 2019, at Buffalo Wild Wings on Old Eastwood Road.

The East Bladen High School football team started their 2019 season with three straight losses, but since then they've rattled three wins in fours week. Last Friday nights 41-38 win over Fairmont earned the Eagles this weeks 5th Quarter Team of the Week. 

Two Cape Fear area teams find themselves ranked inside the top 10 in the latest Associated Press High School football poll. 

The NCISAA State playoffs got underway this week across North Carolina with plenty of Cape Fear area teams in the mix. 

There will be a dedication ceremony for the 3rd Street Bridge next week. It will be named in honor of Basketball Hall of Famer Meadowlark Lemon.

Laney junior Grace Holcomb shot a 72 on Tuesday afternoon to win the individual title and help the Buccaneers win the team title at the Mideastern Conference tournament at Magnolia Greens.
