St. Mary's students celebrate Mardi Gras

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Mardi Gras has not only begun in New Orleans. The party was in full swing today at a Wilmington school.

Students from kindergarten through eighth grade at St. Mary Catholic School marched around campus showing off masks they made themselves. The school band performed for parents and fans, and of course there were beads thrown to the kids.

Every student we spoke with said the celebration was awesome, but many wish they would have collected more beads.

"It was pretty cool," Max Bos said. "My favorite part was the bead throwing, although I didn't get much beads."

Alex Pafford said, "It was fun, and I barely got any beads.">

Organizers and parents say the Mardi Gras celebration is something the entire family looks forward to each year at Saint Mary's.
