Former West Bladen coach joins NHHS staff

WILMINGTON,NC (WWAY) -- Former West Bladen head football coach Pat Byrd has joined the football coaching staff at New Hanover High School. Byrd will start teaching health & physical education at New Hanover on Monday. His position on the football coaching staff is unknown at this time, but there's a good chance he may be named the defensive coordinator. That position is currently open due to Chad Ashley leaving recently. Ashley was named the head football coach at White Oak in February.

Pat Byrd served as the West Bladen head football coach in 2010 & 2011, but he stepped down after the 2011 season ended. Prior to that he served as the head football coach at West Columbus High School. Joe Salas is the current West Bladen head coach. Salas replaced Byrd at West Bladen.
