BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office is looking into what they say was an accidental shooting that killed a woman yesterday.
Investigators say it happened at a home on Paradise Drive in Winnabow around 1:30 p.m.
They say it appears a man was cleaning his gun when it went off. A relative says the man was emptying the gun when it fired. Investigators say the bullet hit the man in the hand before hitting Samantha Reynolds, 20, in the abdomen. Reynolds later died at the hospital.
Editor's note:

Guns do not fire when dropped
Today's firearms are "shock" tested because the federal government requires manufacturers to. They don't go off when someone drops them from a reasonable distance. If they do fire from falling a short distance, then it has been damaged or modified.
Correction
The gun did not "go off." At some point, the dumb@ss in question put his finger within the trigger guard and pulled the trigger. Proper gun safety/gun handling would have prevented this senseless tragedy.
Reporters, please get your facts straight and don't let your personal anti-gun bias spread myths about firearms.

Some firearm can easily discharge without pulling the trigger, It's called "SLAM FIREING".
