RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- North Carolina candidates, leaders of political committees and others are learning the ins and outs of campaign finance and elections so they'll follow the rules and avoid problems that could get them in trouble.
The State Board of Elections is scheduled to host an all-day election symposium Friday at board headquarters in Raleigh. The event is also to be shown online and features elected officials, board regulators and campaign finance experts as panelists.
Topics to be covered include campaign donation rules, third-party expenditures, voter registration and what voter fraud is and isn't.
The conference comes after a string of campaign finance investigations over the years that involved improper use of campaign funds and the failure to report the cost of airplane flights.
