Donations needed for volunteer project that helps fix up homes

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The Cape Fear Volunteer Center needs your help raising money and volunteers for the Reach the Beach effort.

The program helps people in the community who need repairs done to their homes, but this year the program is lacking funding because of the tough economy.

"We have a materials bill that will be due, which is around $20,000, and it's been very difficult to raise the money in this economic climate," organizer Annie Anthony said.

The group says any type of donation helps, including the donation of your time.

As the home of this project we have a list of volunteer opportunities to go along with this project. If you have dollars to help that is great. But if you have a ladder to loan, or take photos, or can bake cookies with your kids we can use all of your help. Including delivering ice pops to the teens out in the field. We have jobs in all 3 counties so we are happy to have anyone from Pender, Brunswick or New Hanover county who would like to help. All the homes have been selected and we have a waiting list of 80 families so we can not help any additional people at this time. But if you would like to volunteer can sign up on our website at www.capefearvolunteercenter.org or call 392-8180. Thanks so much!
