WILMINGTON, NC (UNCW NEWS RELEASE) -- UNCW head baseball coach Mark Scalf has announced the addition of former Seahawk standout Robbie Monday to his staff for the 2012-13 season.

Monday returns to his alma mater following a season on the staff at Barton under the tutelage of another former Seahawk coach Josh Simmons.

"I'm eager to get started," said Monday. "The chance to return to UNCW and join a staff that has been very successful is exciting for me. I'm thankful that Coach Scalf and Coach Hood have given me this opportunity. I look forward to the challenges ahead as we look to win the CAA and return to the NCAA tournament."

Monday played for the Seahawks in 2009 and 2010, finishing his career as the program's all-time leader in slugging percentage (.620) and fourth with 32 career home runs. In 2010, Monday led the Colonial Athletic Association with 20 round trippers and earned second-team All-CAA honors. He was a third-team selection as a junior, his first season with the Seahawks after transferring from Surry Community College.

In his only season with Barton, the Bulldogs hit .285 with 30 home runs and 107 doubles. Phillip Williams earned second-team All-Conference Carolinas after tying for the team lead with eight homers and knocking a team-high 40 runs. Collins Cuthrell also earned second-team honors by hitting .331 and matching Williams' team-high eight homers.
