WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Starting tomorrow you can catch a bus in Wilmington that will take you right to the Amtrak station in Wilson. The next stop is your choice.
Wilson is one of 20 stops between New York and Savannah making up the railroad's Palmetto Route.
"From an economic development standpoint, having Amtrak have a stop right here in our community puts our community on the map even more, bringing tourists into our community, connecting with the trains either in fayetteville or wilson. It's a great thing for our community," New Hanover County Commission Chair Jonathan Barfield said.
The Thru-Way Bus Service will depart Wilmington daily at 9:48 a.m., reaching the Wilson Amtrak station at 1:38 p.m.
The bus will make a run from Wilson at 2:45 p.m. returning to Wilmington at 6:37 p.m.

SENIOR RATE
I AM 80 YEARS LD HAVE DID A 20 DAYS TRAIN TRIP TO THE WEST COAST AND RETURN WITH 32 PASSENGERS [SWEET CORN RAIL TOUR] 2009
I WOULD LOVE TO TAKE THE BUS RIDE TO WILSON AND RETURN.PLEASE GIVE ME THE COST PER PERSON.THANKS FRED SR
My guess is that isnt an express bus
which is why it takes soo long to get to Wilson. I was looking at Western Routes for my wife and I to take a trip up the West Coast and due to scheduling it had us having to sit on a bus coming back through most of California 10hrs worth from Sacramento to LA just to make the connection from LA onward.. Not exactly perfect and rates arent all that great unless your a frequent rider. Who wants to sit even in a train seat for 20+hrs (I did it once from Northern VA to NOLA for a regional college business group meeting back in 92 and it sucked). And to get proper sleeping accomodations the price goes up significantly to basically what airfare would be ultimately.
Amtrack
is a tax guzzling loser, year in and year out.
So what will this cost the American taxpayers?
"bringing tourists into our community"
With them trains connecting to busses coming in from both of them big cities like Wilson and Fayetteville were gonna have to start building more of them hotels to hold them all. Maybe we can put them up in that convention center that aint doing no business before we build more a them hotels.
That Mr. Barfield must sure know what he's saying when he's saying how great them busses are for us bringing in them tourists. If he weren't telling us just what we got to know, he sure would be acting just like them other politicians and we know he's too important to be acting like one a those 'cause some a them aint really saying nothing.
Three hours and fifty
Three hours and fifty minutes to go to Wilson???? What is he doing driving in reverse? Another reason why mass transit has always been rejected. Takes too long to get where you are going.

Travelling at an average of 30.52 miles per hour.....
They should market this as the
"Stop and Smell the Roses" tour.
