Dewey Hill leads Democrats backing Republican McCrory

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- State Rep. Dewey Hill is one of the leaders of a statewide coalition of Democratic leaders backing Republican Pat McCrory for governor, McCrory's campaign said today.

Hill, who is not seeking reelection after 20 years representing Columbus County and Brunswick County in the House, and Rep. James Crawford, a Democrat who represents Granville and Vance counties, are the statewide co-chairs for Democrats for McCrory.
"I believe that he could move us forward, and we certainly need some of that," Hill said.

Hill, who has represented Columbus and Brunswick counties for 20 years, is known for crossing party lines. He has joined Republicans in the House to overturn Democratic Gov. Bev Perdue's veto of the last two state budgets.

"I'm a democrat, but I'm also a conservative, and I'm also a business person. I know at my company we've created jobs over the years, and I know what it takes to create jobs," Hill said.

That's why Hill, who is not seeking reelection to the House, says he supports McCrory and his policies.

Hill says he does not have a problem with Democratic candidate Walter Dalton.

"He's a great guy," Hill said, "and I've worked with the Lt. Governor when he served in the Senate and in our appropriations, and I think he's a great guy. I think that he'd do well, too. I just think McCrory would do better."

McCrory recently went to Scotland County to address unemployment in the region. Hill says stops like that are what helps clarify his choice to support the former Charlotte mayor's campaign and mission.

A spokesman for Dalton says the campaign knows about the bipartisan support for McCrory.

"There are a few sour grapes that are supporting McCrory," said Schorr Johnson, a spokesman for Democratic candidate Walter Dalton. "We'll take the support of Barack Obama, Joe Biden and Michelle Obama."

most democrats these days are idiots, & im a registered democrat, im going tuesday to change my from a Dem to Republican simply because i dont wont to be in the same group who have lost all their morals, afterall they believe in same sex marriage, abortion, blame guns instead of the criminals & whats so sad is all these hard core democrats around here cant get past the(R) in front of a candidates name to do the right thing, Deweys a 1st class ASS but i commend him for his backing of McCroy

I guess it cannot be that he is support McCory because McCrory is the best man available for the job. Sounds like the sour grapes are those in the democratic party who don't believe that you should support the best man for the job if he has a different letter behind his name. If people would get off of this party crap and doing what's right for the party instead of what's right for the people, then we would all be better off.

Demo "RAT'S", they'll say anything to stay in power.

knows which side of the bread his butter is on. His clients have become more and more Republican in recent years. Keeping those cash registers ringing is all that matters to Dewey. The Democratic Party has stood with him all these many years and look how he repays the favor.
I guess he will go down in history as a shop keeper.

... to find someone like yourself complaining about someone else not being the paragon of spotless American virtue.

He's old and can't be held responsible for his actions.

Mr. Hill knows that his party has left him and many, many more Dems in North Carolina. The Dems today are more concerned about gay marriage, tax payer funded abortions, and being against a voter id, than getting off the backs of small business. Mr Hill is a good man and I admire him for his principles. He does understand small business and yes HE DID BUILD HIS. This is a concept that modern day Dems don't understand and they will pay the price in November. They all ready have in the State Legislature. They should have listened to people Like Hill and Crawford. If they had, they might still be in controll.
