Topsail to honor alum Butler, all military at football game

HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) -- Topsail High School will honor an alum killed while serving in the Army in Afghanistan.

Sgt. T.J. Butler graduated from Topsail High in 2006. He joined the NC National Guard a year later. He and two other members of the Guard were killed by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan October 1.

In honor of Butler and all service men and women, Topsail High School will hold Military Appreciation Day during tomorrow night's football game against Croatan.

All military with ID will be admitted to the game free of charge. They will also be recognized during halftime.

There will be collection tubs at the front gate for people to donate food items to the Butler family. If there is a surplus of food, other military and their families in the area will receive donations.

Fans are asked to wear read, white and blue to the game.

The tribute will come just hours after Sgt. Butler is laid to rest at Wilmington National Cemetery.

I won't be at the game, so please - someone tell me that if some fool decides to stand up and protest the military or insult them, that you will be so gracious to tackle them to the ground and throw their sorry butts out.

As a Christian, I find the church that protests at these funerals to be evil. They do not represent me by any means. I hope the local churches will show their support and show up at the funeral and block any protestors from view. The family does not need that type of evil around them.
