Man charged again after cops find heroin in patrol car

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A trip to the police station got worse for a man already under arrest when officers say he hid heroin in the patrol car that took him there.

Wilmington Police say they arrested Vernon Gore, 38, on three outstanding warrants after they found drugs in a room at the Travel Lodge on Market Street while responding to a call about drugs and prostitution.

After officers took Gore to Wilmington Police headquarters, they say they found a Crown Royal bag containing heroin and drug paraphernalia under the back seat of the patrol car in which he had been transported.

Gore is in the New Hanover County Jail under a $55,900 bond for felony possession of Schedule I, possession of drug paraphernalia, four misdemeanor failures to appear, and two bond surrenders.

Given that criminals tend to

Given that criminals tend to try to hide there stuff anywhere, it isn't always possible for an officer to find contraband during a standard pat down.

Bad pat down by arresting

Bad pat down by arresting officer. Any good attorney should get that charge dropped.

Has anyone ever considered

Has anyone ever considered that the bag could have been there before Mr. Gore was ever placed in the vehicle? Had a proper search been done of the detainee, a competent officer would have found it. What if it had been a small gun?
