WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A Wilmington man will spend more than a decade in prison on federal drug and gun charges.
Wilmington Police arrested Dymon Black in August 2011 after they say he robbed a man who wanted to buy drugs from him. Prosecutors say Black fired his gun into the ground near the robbery victim. Later they say Black shot himself in the hand while unloading the gun at his home. He went to the hospital claiming he was the victim of a robbery, which led to the hospital calling police.
Investigators say Black consented to a search of his home, where officers found his gun, 19 bags of marijuana and a substantial amount of blood from where Black had shot himself. Police took Black into custody, and he confessed to what happened.
In July, Black pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possessing and using a firearm during a drug trafficking offense.
A federal judge sentenced Black to 10.5 years in prison followed by five years supervised release.
