Boiling Spring Lakes names new police chief

BOILING SPRING LAKES, NC (WWAY) -- The City of Boiling Spring Lakes has a new Chief of Police. Lt. Bradford Shirley of the Graham Police Department will start in his new position January 22, 2013, according to a press release from the city.

City Manager Jeff Repp says the city received a number of resumes for the position and ultimately decided that Shirley was the best fit.

The position opened earlier this year after former Chief Emmett Ballree allegedly abused his power as chief.

Shirley has been an officer for 17 years. Repp says the city is excited for the experience Shirley will bring to the table as the new head of the department.

Police Chief Brad Shirley

As Mayor of Graham, I have had the pleasure and honor to know Brad when he worked for the City of Graham. My wife, Jan, and I are both very sorry that he has left our city, but we know he needs to do the best for himself and his family. You are truly getting a great police Chief at Boiling Springs and I know he will do a great job.
