House fire kills family's dog

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A fire in Wilmington last night killed a family pet and caused significant damage to the home.

The Wilmington Fire Department says crews responded to the home at 725 Ivey Circle around 11:30 p.m. Firefighters contained the fire to a bedroom and bathroom and had it out within minutes, but there is smoke damage throughout the house. Damage estimates for structure and contents are $50,000.

The family was not home when the fire started, but their dog died in the fire. The Red Cross is assisting the family.

The fire investigator determined the cause was accidental and was electrical.

My dog's name was Bosco. He was a pit/mastiff mix that was very much a big chicken and a goofball. While he was not the smartest dog in the world, he was the most loving dog and the best friend you could ask. And to think he was home by himself when this happened has been very tough to deal with. So while it has been hard trying to replace all the stupid things that you use every day and do not really think about, I do not value these things over a life especially his.

You may not care but have some respect for this family that lost a LOVED one!

LAST concern would be the stupid dog!

Do you have a heart inside your body?!? Have a little compassion for people! Pets are like children the have feelings as well! Get a life!

Have a heart man. Someone's family lost a pet. To some people its like losing a family member.

You're showing your ignorance there with a statement like that, most of us regard our "dog" as a member of our family, anyone that will treat a dog bad will treat a child or loved one the same!

I'm glad I'm not your dog...

Well whenyour house burns down and kills your pet we'll all remember that. How about a little sympathy. Jerk.

Is that because your last dog committed suicide to get away from you?
