WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority now hopes to have traffic back to normal on Wooster Street before the heart of the evening rush. At about 3:30 p.m., CFPUA spokesman Mike McGill said crews were working on road repairs after fixing a water main break. He says all lanes of traffic on Wooster should be open by 4:30 p.m. McGill said the six-inch cast iron pipe, which is 60 to 80 years old, broke this morning near the intersection of Wooster and 3rd streets. Police and firefighters closed three westbound lanes of Wooster as CFPUA crews work to fix the problem. Officials advised drivers to avoid Wooster between 5th Avenue and 3rd Street. WFD suggests traffic wanting to cross the bridge to Brunswick County should use 3rd Street or Front Street or consider using the Isabel Holmes Bridge on the north end of downtown. CFPUA says no customers are affected by the main break. The utility also says a boil water advisory is unlikely.
