Two assistants leave UNCW basketball

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The UNCW men's basketball team is looking for two new assistant coaches.

Associate Head Coach Jamie Kachmarik and Assistant Coach Dante Calabria will not return to the staff next season.

"We appreciate the leadership and service of Jamie and Dante and wish them the best in the future," Head Coach Buzz Peterson said in a news release. "By restructuring our coaching staff and reviewing every phase of our program, we hope to return the program to a level of excellence that will become a source of pride for our student-athletes, the university and the Wilmington community."

Kachmarik recently completed his third season with the Seahawks. He coached with Peterson at Coastal Carolina and Appalachian State before coming to UNCW with Peterson in 2010-11.

Calabria finished his first season as a full-time assistant coach after serving as the program's Director of Basketball Operations in 2011-12.

"restructuring our coaching staff and reviewing every phase of our program"-should start with firing Peterson, he's is a terrible coach, also lost his best player transfering to Va Tech. So he blames the asst coaches?

The program is so bad they should clean house.

Coach Peterson is not going to give up a cushy job paying far more than he deserves. He's not going to fall on his sword. And he never heard of the trickle down theory.

Clearly though, all of the program problems should not have been laid at Benny Moss' feet.
