Paws 4 People hosts race at UNCW

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Paws 4 People held its 5th annual 5k, 10k and 1 mile fun walk at UNCW this weekend.

WWAY's very own Tim Buckley served as the event's master of ceremonies Sunday morning.

The race helped raise money for service dogs that the organization trains and places with people with disabilities free of charge.

Paws 4 People's founder Kyria Henry started the organization after she saw the effects of how her dog could help others.

"The most rewarding thing is probably when you see a dog graduate with their client and then you get to see them a few months later, a year later. A lot of our clients are here today to support this event so we get to see them and see how well they are working together and what a difference it’s made in their lives," Henry said.

More than 300 people came to run or walk in the races along with 150 dogs.
