WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Police arrested a wanted Wilmington man they say used a tree branch to beat another man before taking off with cash from his pocket back in May.
Wilmington Police say on the night of May 14, a witness spotted a man hitting another man with a stick near the intersection of 3rd and Orange streets. When the witness called to report the crime, officers say they then found the victim at the bus stop a few blocks away with blood covering his head and hands.
When EMS responded, that's when officers say the victim told them a man had assaulted him with an oak tree limb just before he reached into his pocket and took off with $50 in cash. Police say the man was later identified as Uriel Anderson, 33.
After taking out warrants on Anderson back in May, police say they finally caught up with him early this morning, charging him with assault and robbery with a dangerous weapon with intent to inflict serious injury. Anderson is in the New Hanover County Jail under $50,000 bond.
