OCEAN ISLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A teen suffered lacerations on her foot after a reported shark attack, according to the mayor.

Mayor Debbie Smith said she got the report at around 12:40 p.m. She said a 13-year-old female reported a shark bit her and her boogie board, pictured above. Smith said the teen suffered a few lacerations on her foot but was not severely injured.

The incident was reported near Monroe Street. Smith said there are beach patrols monitoring the area.

“She wobbled out and left the boogie board and it just went at the boogie,” witness Alexa Whittemore said. “I felt like I needed to warn people but it was surreal. Like it was definitely surreal, and I was like oh my gosh I just hope she has her legs, like I felt so bad for her cause she was so young.”

According to the 911 call, the teen was bit on the right foot. “It got a-hold of her foot and bit her board in half,” the caller said. The shark was reported to be about four feet long.
