WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The 16-th annual Back to School Buddies Backpack Giveaway was help today at the Martin Luther King Center in Wilmington.

Organizers said over 2,000 backpacks filled with supplies were given out to students for free. The bags were filled with all the essentials for all different ages, from kindergarten to high school.

But it wasn’t just about backpacks. The event also featured free haircuts and hair braiding, free dental screenings, free food, and even bouncy houses and pony rides for the kids.

Organizers said it is wonderful to be able to give back to the community and help out those in need right here in Wilmington.

It looks like these kids are being taught that everything comes free. I don’t donate to charities anymore. Haven’t since the 2008 presidents election and won’t until the current president is out of office. My parents always had to buy my school school supplies (when I got old enough, I worked to buy school clothes,) Too many children are being taught the “I’m entitled to get this free” frame of mind. At 68 y/o I am looking out for me.
