ONLY ON 3: Construction to begin on Columbus County Veteran Park

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — A groundbreaking ceremony was held to officially begin construction on the Veterans Memorial Park in Columbus County.

Community members have been discussing the project since 2013. Various community members showed up for today’s ceremony — including a bus of veterans from Charlotte.

Randy Norris, the Park’s president says the park will continue to unite the Columbus County community.

“The people of Columbus County are seeing that this is actually happening, and I think they’re going to come out and show even more support than we’ve already had,” Norris said.

No word yet on when the construction will be completed.
