PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Topsail High School’s head baseball coach was booked into the Pender County Jail again today under new charges, according to jail officials.

Pender County Jail officials said Jonathan Granville Gehris, 34, was booked around 11 a.m. on an assault by strangulation charge. They said he was released from jail later today around 3:30 p.m. Those are the only details officials are releasing at this time.

According to arrest records, Gehris was also booked on charges of assault on a female on Dec. 21.

Gehris led the Pirates to a state championship in 2014. He’s been the coach at Topsail since the 2013 season.

Topsail High School’s athletic director said he has no comment at this time. WWAY has placed calls to try and get in touch with Gehris for comment. WWAY also emailed the Pender County School District for comment. We have not heard back from either yet.
