UNCW: Reported assault on campus didn’t happen

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The reported attack of a female on UNCW’s campus last week has now been deemed false.UNCW

According to UNCW Police, the attack of a 19-year-old female student reported a week ago didn’t happen. At the time, the student said three men attacked her with a pipe and left the area.

Major Chris Bertram said surveillance video helped them to determine that the assault did not happen on campus. He said they spoke with the female and she no longer remembers what happened.

“They only thing that I can discuss is our investigation, and as I said earlier, our investigation concluded that what was reported to us didn’t occur as it was reported,” Bertram said.

Police said they do not plan to press charges at this time. A WPD spokeswoman said they have not been asked by UNCW to investigate further.
