Four charged in murder of Wilmington man
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police Detectives have charged four people in connection with the murder of a Wilmington man.
According to a release 30-year-old Mark Steven Landreth, 23-year-old William Matthew Fought, 46-year-old Donna Lynne Beck, and 24-year-old Joshua Jeremy Chavis have all been charged with first degree murder and conspiracy to commit common law robbery and armed robbery. In addition, Landreth and Fought are charged with attempted breaking and entering.
Official say, the four suspects entered 55-year-old David Leroy Clark Jr.’s home in the 500 block of Alabama Avenue on March 20. Clark sustained head injuries when the group attempted to rob and assault him. EMS transported Clark to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where he later died on April 8.
Detectives believe Landreth and Fought attempted to break into Clark’s home by kicking his doors prior to the assault. They were unsuccessful and later returned with Beck and Chavis, that’s when the assault and robbery took place.
Officials say the autopsy showed Clark died as a result of the injuries from the assault.
This is still an active investigation and no further details are available at this time.
