Event gives kids firsthand look at gun violence

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police said youth gun violence is slowly on the rise, so they decided to do something about it.

The “Truth About Guns and Youth” demonstration, sponsored by local agencies, aims to show kids what gun violence really looks like. From inside the hospital to the funeral home, kids got a firsthand experience.

Judy McKnight lost her only child to gun violence and said these events are essential to the community.

“We have gone through it, we have lost our children, we have mourned our children and we are still mourning,” McKnight said. “We are mourning life today and what’s going on out here in this world and we’re trying to make a change on that.”

The groups said they plan to do the demonstration again in the future.
