Teen charged with stabbing death of realtor, musician

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A teenager has been charged with the stabbing death of a man in New Hanover County last week.

Sheriff Ed McMahon says a 15-year-old white male is charged in the death of Ben Privott. He was found stabbed to death around 2 a.m. Friday on Bracken Fern Drive.

McMahon says the suspect has no known gang affiliation, but the sheriff says he cannot release more information because the suspect is so young.

Friends of Privott describe the man as a great friend and musician.

McMahon said Privott was the victim of a random act of violence.

“This is not somebody that was involved in any criminal activity, anything devious,” McMahon said. “This man was just like any of us.”

Sheriff McMahon said he does not expect any other arrests in the case.
