Wilmington Walmart back open after bomb threat

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Walmart in Monkey Junction was evacuated after receiving what deputies say was a bomb threat Monday morning.

Employees redirected customer traffic while New Hanover County Sheriff deputies investigated.

Wendy Benson said she was inside when employees told her to leave.

“I was picking up a few things and they came across the intercom and said ‘Please, employees and customers leave the building. There is an electrical problem,’ Benson said. “They said it like 3 or 4 times and then people starting going out.”

Spokesman Jerry Brewer said after sweeping the store, employees and customers were allowed back in.
