Officer shoots ‘aggressive’ dog near school bus stop
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A WPD spokeswoman said a dog was shot and wounded after showing aggression near kids at a school bus stop this morning.
Police said it happened before 7 a.m. at the intersection of 13th and Wright streets. Police said they received several calls about aggressive pit bulls in the area. They said when they got to the area they saw several children at a bus stop and one of the dogs in the 1200-block of Wright Street. After trying to lure the dog away from the kids, the officer shot the dog because they said it became aggressive. Two other dogs were also in the area but were not involved.
The owner of the dogs were located and police said they told investigators the dog escaped a fenced area. The investigation has now been turned over to animal control, police said.
