WPD: Robber throws hot coffee on clerk, steals money and cigarettes

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A gas station clerk is recovering after police say a robber threw hot coffee on him.

Police said it happened after 1:30 a.m. this morning at the Pantry on Eastwood Road. Police said a woman came in and acted like she was going to buy some coffee, but once the register was open she threw the coffee on the clerk and took cash and cigarettes.

Police said the woman, who was only described as a black female between 23-35 years old left the scene in a silver four-door sedan. The clerk was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment.
