Two armed robberies reported Wednesday night

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Investigators with the Wilmington Police Department are investigating two armed robberies.

A WPD spokeswoman said the first happened around 7:30 p.m. last night at Cigarette City in the 5000-block of Market Street. She said a woman came in with a handgun and demanded cigarettes. No other customers were in the business at the time and no injuries were reported. Police are checking surveillance video to see if the woman is the same suspect accused of stealing cigarettes at another Wilmington business. A clerk was injured in that incident when the robber threw hot coffee on him, police said.

The second armed robbery was reported just before 11 p.m. in the 400-block of N. 10th Street. A teenager told police he was walking home from the Carolinian Inn when he was approached by a man and woman. Police said the male suspect had a silver handgun, punched the victim in the head and ribs and took his cell phone and headphones. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Wilmington Police Department.
