Man charged with murder in Whiteville woman’s death

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — Whiteville Police say a man already charged for stabbing a woman multiple times is now charged with murder in a separate case.

A Whiteville city spokesman says James Edward McKamey is chaged with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon in the death of Carol Greer.

Earlier this week, police said that 65-year-old Greer was found dead in her apartment on Smyrna Drive Tuesday afternoon after a neighbor called 911.

They said they were searching for Greer’s Subaru Outback.

On Thursday, police say Brunswick County deputies conducted a vehicle stop involving the SUV. Whiteville Police say James Edward McKamey was driving the SUV with his wife, Rocky McKamey, as the passenger.

Both McKameys were detained and taken to the Brunswick County jail, before being transported to Whiteville for questioning.

Police say the SBI is investigating new leads in both this case and another stabbing that happened Monday on Nance Street, which left Reshonta Love hurt, to figure out if they could be connected.

Edward McKamey is charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill in the stabbing of Love.
