Names of Leland officer shot, suspect killed released

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Leland Police have released the names of the officer shot and the suspect killed Friday night.

According to a news release, the officer is Jacob Schwenk. Leland Police Chief Mike James said Friday night Schwenk was responding to a suspicious person call on Bridgeport Way in the Windsor Park subdivision when the suspect opened fire. Police say that man, Brent Quinn, died in the shooting.

District Attorney Jon David said Schwenk was shot in the legs and also in the chest, but was protected by his bullet-proof vest. Schwenk underwent surgery Friday night. Saturday multiple sources told WWAY he is expected to recover.

The State Bureau of Investigation is handling the case. Details about what led to the shooting have not been released.
