LAS VEGAS, NV (WWAY) — One of the Cape Fear’s own is honored in Las Vegas for her dedication to marine life.
The head of the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center, Jean Beasley, received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the International Sea Turtle Society.
Beasley collected the award during the 37th Annual Symposium on Sea Turtle Biology and Conservation.
The award goes to someone who significantly impacts sea turtle biology and conservation.
Beasley opened the sea turtle hospital in Pender County in 1997.
She has since helped hundreds of sick turtles return to the ocean.
