Repaving to close lanes on I-140 until late August

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — If you travel on I-140, you can expect lane closures for most of the summer, but the NCDOT says the work will result in a smoother ride.

The DOT says crews will intermittently close lanes on I-140 between US 421 and a half mile east of I-40 in New Hanover County to repave the road, rebuild shoulders and repair bridge approaches and joints.

The closures begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday and will last until Aug. 25. One lane will remain open for traffic in each direction.

“We are working with our partners in the community to minimize the impacts of this project. This includes no work on Saturdays to accommodate beach traffic,” Division Resident Engineer Keith Eason said in a news release.

There will not be a detour, and travelers should expect delays. Transportation officials encourage drivers to use caution through the work zone.
