NC leaders concerned about slow progress in expanding gambling at Indian casino

North Carolina's top legislative leaders say they're concerned about what they call the slow pace of negotiations to let the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians expand gambling at its casino, but are ready to consider needed changes to state law when there's a deal.

Sharks release 2012 baseball schedule

The Wilmington Sharks 2012 summer league baseball schedule is out. The Sharks also want to spread the word about the their Toys for Tots program. The team is teaming up with the US Marine Corps in their annual toy drive.

Ashley baseball players sign to play in college

College baseball teams began signing recruits Wednesday. Today at Ashley High School, two Eagles signed to play at the next level. Chance Shepard and Christian Wolfe will both play Division I baseball.

Toyota gives Carolina Canines for Service a lift

An area charity is getting a free ride to help move along its efforts. Toyota Scion of Wilmington gave a new minivan to Carolina Canines for Service. The giveaway is part of the 100 Cars for Good program.

Son shoots mom's boyfriend after she's hit with beer can

Paul Lewis Sawyer was shot in the thigh with a shotgun Sunday morning following a domestic disturbance with his girlfriend, Tina McDaniel. Sawyer allegedly struck McDaniel with a thrown beer can and her son retrieved a shotgun and shot Sawyer.

Occupy Wilmington holds ground in front of City Hall

video Protesters have been occupying the space in front of Wilmington City Hall for a couple of days now. Unlike other occupy movements around the country that have gotten violent and even deadly, members of Occupy Wilmington say they are a friendly bunch who just want their voices heard.

Families sought to host Marines for Thanksgiving

video Port City Java is organizing a Make a Marine's Thanksgiving drive. They're looking for 27 families to host two Marines each from Camp Lejeune Thanksgiving Day from 11:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. You can feed them lunch, watch some football, or do whatever your family does to celebrate the holiday.
