It's Super Bowl weekend! And even us science nerds here in the weather department are talking football.

Palm trees, warm breezes, and sunshine come to mind when you think about "Super Bowl weather". Well, nobody told Mother Nature the game was in Dallas this year.

What a weekend! Two great days of weather with sunny skies and warm weather made for a great little vacation from the cold winter we're enduring.

Well pat yourselves on the back everybody, we finally did it! Our latest streak of cold days came to a screeching halt on Wednesday with temperatures above normal for the first time in weeks.

Come on, you can admit it. You've had it with the cold weather this winter haven't you?

You sick of it yet? Round after round after round of cold air has surged into the Southeast this winter, with no end in sight.

As our cold weather has relented somewhat, the winter is just getting started way up north.

They say the misery loves company. Well, if you're not a fan of the cold weather you've certainly been miserable in this edition of a Wilmington winter.

Wednesday morning's visible satellite image gives us a rare sight here in the Cape Fear area -- snow!

We knew we were going to get hit by this winter storm, but even us here in the Weather Center were impressed how fast the snow started adding up on Monday.

The closer we get, the more likely it looks like a winter storm will drive up the coast early next week.

A repeat of the Christmas storm? A new storm will cross the country over the coming days, and it looks eerily similar to the system that brought snow two weeks ago.

The wild year that was. 2010 broke records for heat, cold, rain and even snow as Mother Nature threw all she had at Southeastern North Carolina.

Good riddance! That's what many of us would say to the chilly December 2010 as we kick it to the curb heading into 2011.

Sometimes we throw around the term "snowed in" a little loosely, just as something to say when we are staying home from work or school due to bad weather.
