Boiling Spring Lakes police officer is going to prison

A former Boiling Spring Lakes police officer is going to prison for raping a 14-year-old in his patrol car. Thirty-eight year old Luke Stidham pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree rape and two counts of indecent liberties with a fourteen year old. The incident happened in July and August 2006, after Stidham courted the young lady on MySpace. Stidham is married and has three children of his own. He will serve 4 and a half years behind bars as part of the plea bargain.

it's a sad situation all around

It is clear that this young girl was seeking the wrong kind of male attention and that is going to haunt her in her later years .and it is clear that this officer , who swore to protect did just the opposite, I hurt for the young girl and I hurt for her offenders family, they did nothing wrong, , I hope beyond hope that there will be a light at the end of the tunnel for these people who have suffered through no fault of thier own.

If you want to know why things are going down hill, look at the sentences being given nowadays. A police officer, raping a 14 year old gets a slap on the wrist. This poor girl will carry this horror for the rest of her life. Plea bargain. We certainly know where the "bargain" is.

The Boiling Springs Lake Police Dept. are as bad if not worse than the people that they arrest and also continue to harass after making the arrest. Signed by one of the MOTHERs of a child that was arrested and has been harrased ever since. I always thought that you were inosent UNTIL proven guilty in a court of law, but that is not so because it is on her criminal record as PENDING. It is on her criminal record even tho she has not been proven guilty yet by a court of law!!!!! Mary Brower BSL

Not every one is bad

I can't disagree with your assessment because to a degree you are right. I don't have to tell you this because you already know that you are. However, for the sake of the good cops that still work at BSL I would like to submit there are still some dedicated good cops working here. Those good cops suffer just as the citizens do.
