Troubleshooters: Vacuum scam

READ MORE: Troubleshooters: Vacuum scam

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Like a lot of folks in this economy, Dan Martin was looking for a way to make ends meet. He answered an ad in the paper advertising for a position selling air purification systems. He was hired by Purecare, and says he was promised a minimum salary of $500 a week.

Early in the training process Martin says he realized what they really wanted him to do was sell $2,000 vacuum cleaners to his own friends and family. He says he doesn't want anyone else to be duped by the company's owner Rebecca Jackson.

"She's a hustler," Martin said. "That girl was smooth. I mean, she came in dressed in silk, walkin' the walk and talkin' the talk, and that's all it was was talk."

After almost a month with the company, Martin says he quit because he still hadn't gotten a dime in salary.

That's funny ,,,I answered a

That's funny ,,,I answered a ad today and called and was told to come at 3:00 tomorrow to 3145 Wrightsville ave Highland park plaza and ask for Mr Freeman-

Job Opening not for customer service dept.

I answered that ad also but it read Local factory outlet now has 24 positions available to work in our customer service dept. I'm not looking for a sales job. Why delibertly deceive people and waste their time if not for fraudulent reasons. If you can stand by this behavior then you aren't someone I would want to know or definitely not work for. You call 910-762-4160,they said they were Jacob and Assoc. and they give you an interview time. And they said the address is 3145 Wrightsville Ave. Highland Park Plaza. This is such ashame that people have no morales or values anymore.

You are right about Airstream filtration

I also had answered an ad for the training and went for the 3 days of it, never to be paid. I also ran a few appointments with friends and family and I even asked Mr. Freeman will they be asked to purchase any of these we were demonstrating he assured me they wouldn't that these demos would be a practice run. Well everyone I did a demo for I had to call in and let them know I had finished. Then came the sales pitch from them and the special offers if they by now.

Thank Goodness!!

The best thing that could ever happen in Wilmington was for that woman to go out of business. She had an office here in Shallotte and I work right down from there and people were constantly going in and out and the traffic/parking was horrible. But I don't think she is "out".... lately we've seen truck loads of shipments coming into the office again, so BEWARE of any new ads. We're waiting for a "new" sign to go up.

Not All Bad

I sold Filter Queens for 13 years and made a good living. The products are excellent and have helped many families as well as my own with their allergies. So much in fact that some of them even wrote testimonials to the newspaper. So what if it's a vacuum or an airfilter, Ever seen a Kirby? I would NEVER use anything else in my home but that. And the reason I'm not doing that anymore is because I retired. Just because one person is bad doesn't mean the product is. Has everyone stopped buying gas at BP because of the oil leak? PS: I worked for her for 7 years

They called me for a demo and told me it would only be about 20 minutes and I would geet a gift of either a 2 night stay in a four or five star hotel, knife set or a digital camera. The man came and was there over a hour and a half and emptied my vacuum cleaner dirt all over my rug. That pissed me off. I told him that this was only supposed to me for a short time and asked how much longer. He told me another hour and I said no way that I have things to do. So he got mad and packed up and left the dirt on my rug and told me I could not get the prize cause I didn't do the whole session. I asked him for his manager phone number and he wouldn't give it to me. I then called the phone number on my caller ID and a girl answered and told me she would have the manager call me and she never called. SO I had to clean my rug again and never got a gift. DO NOT LET THESE PEOPLE IN YOUR HOME....

Gone Gone

This happened to me I went to South Port area also in Wilmington.
I started to fill the forum out. And I was looking around and I told myself this is not right. So I got up and look at the woman. Is this selling vacuum's? She said yes I told her you got to be joking right. Then I went on to also tell her that it was not for me. And I did not appreciate you wasting my time. And I was going to call trouble shooters but I did not take the job.

This needs to stop in this town they come here because there is no jobs.

I too ALMOST got caught up

I too ALMOST got caught up in this scam. I responded to an ad for a delivery person with a pay of $14.00 per hour. Once I showed up for the interview process, I found out it was for vacuum cleaner sales. After wasting 3 days in training, when it came time to sign their contract, I had questions regarding requirements stated that had not been explained. The EXTREMELY smooth talking owner of the company who had promised the moon became very angry and told me if I didn't trust his company to do the right thing I could put down my training materials and his contract and leave. That's just what I did. And boy am I glad I did, especially after seeing your news story and reading these comments! My hope is that others will see this story and these comments and not fall prey to these unethical and immoral people.

ACTUALLY....The Business in

ACTUALLY....The Business in question is not a scam and has been in business for over 80+ years...They sell a deep surface cleaner and air purification system that has been beneficial both to me and my family. I really do wish all of you people who found the job too hard to do or didn't make the money that you wanted because your lazy would stop dragging Filterqueen thru the dirt. It IS a legit business and hope that after making everyone else in this community look bad because of your issues you feel better.

My niece AND husband have BOTH worked for this company and have BOTH been screwed. They received absolutely NO PAY after selling MULTIPLE cleaners and working ENDLESS hours. i will say that no one person is the big scam artist because every office nationwide has at least TWO that recruit people to advertise and sell the items in question to their friends and family with promises of office appointments and wages and everything else. My husband was charged $60 for insurance on HIMSELF and me niece $30 for HERSELF to be insured to go into MY friends and families homes. The ad in the paper was for a "factory" position at $15.95 an hour, nowhere did it specify that amount "if you are lucky" it is all built on a foundation of LIES from the getgo. They GUARANTEED 15 appts a week at $20 per appt, appointments that the company was supposed to give them and even went as far as to say they would research FULLY the places they were sending them. Which at first began as hotels and businesses, then became the homes of people that we know. Let me ask you this. How the HELL are we supposed to know THAT many people to sell this crap to? Eventually one will run out of people to scam. So of course the job goes nowhere. Except to the people at the top of the PYRAMID. Both my family members busted their asses worked 12 hours a day selling this. Never seen a dime. It isnt about laziness or anything else. Its about liars and scam artists.

i worked there also!! the product is great! i have one myself! but 3 days training NO PAY! a one hour or more meeting everyday NO PAY! which is BS... and becky jackson she is the liar. she trys to make out like she grew up with nothing haha yeah ok. but i loved the people i worked with and i had alot of fun but times are hard people right now just cant afford the product and the pay is not that great! i mean it would be really good if you had another job but it is so demanding when you are gettin appointments in the evening and having to go to a meeting at 9 or ten in the morning. and you have to have ten appointments a week to get paid 200 dollars. and the add in the news paper is miss leading cause your commision does not start at 400 it starts at 300. and if you dont get any sales you get 200 IF you get 10 appointments if you dont get 10 appointments or a sale youdont get paid! also sometimes for extra money you had to go door to door doing "Health surveys" which is just another way to get in the door which i hated them sooo much! but my trainer was great! he was Mr.Freeman! he was a great person and great to work for he would sale water to a whale he was great at what he did! and super smart! but he was treated unfair by a long shot!

who pays money for this an idiot anyway!

Not Fair

I worked for this company for over 10 years and this is not the whole story. Becky Jackson is a great person, no we didnt see eye to eye all the time, but she was fair. She would help people and give more chances than most people would. I have a lot of things that without Filter Queen, I would not have. I have been on many trips and made a very well income with this company. The product is well worth what it cost, when you see what it can do for you and your family. Sometimes you have to look at both sides of the story. It sounds like to me he may have gotten fired and was just mad. He needs to deal with it and grow up. People make a living by this product and support there family. Do you relly think this is going to help?

These People should be Shot.

This is just a scam. These people have come to this town because they know that there are no jobs here and folks are desparate to put food on the table for their familys. All these people who say they have made money are liars. It is will known that they place false postings talking ab out how great it is to work for them. No one has made a dime working for this company Becky Jackson (if that is even her real name) is a con artist as soon as you start to ask questions about how you are going to get your money they get angry and try to make you feel stupid but I told them to go fuck themselves. They will run you all over the place and pay you NOTHING AT ALL. THIS IS SCAM DO NOT BE SUCKED IN THEY DONT EVEN PAY FOR THE MILES YOU DRIVE SELLING THESE VACUMES THAT NOBODY WANTS. BECKY JOHNSON IS A LIAR AND A CHEAT ALONG WITH ALL THE PEOPLE WHO ARE INVOLVED WITH THE MAIN OFFICE OF THIS COMPANY. RUN FROM THESE PEOPLE THEY ARE A CANCER ON THIS TOWN AND NEED TO BE SHUT DOWN.

Your Kidding, right?

You must be Mrs. Jackson herself to write such a glowing comment. Anyone that has ever known her knows that she is a money hungry, lying, scheming and cut throat person. And to top it off, no one has ever worked for her 10 years or more, if they did they are bankrupt now!

Why are not still working

Why are not still working there. It sounds like to me the company needs to close down.

Wilmington is just as bad

I worked at the FilterQueen distributer in Wilmington for about a month as well. I even quit my job when I was promised about triple the income I made at my last job. The owner there made you think that this guy was your best friend in the world and was a smoooooth talker. But when you had a question about something, he made you feel like you were the dumbest person around. Youd be told one thing one day then the next day when you mention it, he tells you the complete opposite then makes you feel like an idiot because you just should have known better...

Granted, I sold 2 systems and made 700 in commission....but every time I asked about where my paycheck was, the answer I got was "We'll have it for you tomorrow". It wasn't untill I made the mention that I would contact the Better Business Bureau that I got a paycheck. It was 3 weeks at that point.

The hours are no where near worth that job either. Especially if you have a family. Your required to go to a daily 9am meeting thats about 2.5 hours long, that you are NOT paid for, but it is mandatory to be there. Your hourly pay doesnt cover your travel time. Your paid when you get to the house and call in, then your "clock out" is when you call back for your call out script. then after that you could be there 1-2 hours later doing paperwork, cleaning up, getting references etc. If you do more than 1 demo a day your looking at the 9am meeting to start then not getting home until around midnight. The meetings are M-F then you do demos 7 days per week.

I really really like the product, both the majestic and defender are amazing products, but I'm not paying 5000 dollars for them... and it was not worth losing my precious family time. The little time i did get to be home, I was so tired and depressed about not being with my loved ones that all i did was lay in my bed and cry.

Thankfully, my previous job was happy to hire me back and I'm much happier and appreciate what I do so much more. AND I'm getting payed when I'm supposed to

I can appreciate all the comments here about PureCare. I too had a negative experience with this company, and I have taken action. I am currently interested in interviewing people who have worked for this company. You could be the missing link in seeing that justice prevails. All that is needed for evil to prosper is for good people to do nothing. I can be reached at
