Felon Facebook fan for sheriff candidate

He's been keeping a low profile ever since being released from prison last month, but former Brunswick County Sheriff Ron Hewett has made an appearance on Facebook endorsing a candidate who's running for his old job.

Tim Daniels is a state trooper running for Sheriff of Brunswick County as a Republican. So you might be surprised to hear that one of his many Facebook fans is a high-profile Democrat: Hewett.

In a post on Daniels's Facebook page, Hewett writes, "I knew Tim as a child, loved him as a teen.... and now support him as the next Sheriff of Brunswick County.... Thank God I am free and can endorse a 'man of honor' to carry the flag that was robbed from me."

Before going to prison for obstruction of justice, Hewett was an extremely popular sheriff for 14 years. He still has a big following, but he's also a convicted felon, so we asked Daniels if he was reluctant to accept his endorsement.

"I accept all citizens' support in Brunswick County," Daniels said. "I'm a Brunswick County native, and I would expect the Hewetts and all the other Brunswick County natives that really know me to support me."

Sheriff John Ingram served under Hewett for more than a decade and was one of more than a dozen deputies subpoenaed to testify about the sheriff's behavior. Deputies said Hewett did everything from coming to crime scenes drunk to having them do his campaign work while on the clock.

"Former Sheriff Hewett has served his time and been out," Ingram said. "I wish him nothing but a good life, and whether he supports Tim Daniels or whoever, that's certainly his right."

There is just one more day to file, but right now, Daniels and Ingram are the only ones running for Brunswick County Sheriff, and they're both Republicans. If no one else files, that means the race will likely be decided in the primary election May 4, and voters will only be eligible to participate in the sheriff's primary if they are registered as a Republican or unaffiliated.

When did the words "Sir" and

When did the words "Sir" and "Mr. Daniels" become racial slurs? It was the only names I used for him. If you were there you would have known. Here's a test to see if you were there or not. I did make a goof. Nothing illegal or racially related. It was a funny rookie error. Mr. Daniels didn't even know it happened, but the other 2 Deputies did. Tell me what it was and I will believe you were there.

Liar

You were not there. Nick never used a racial slur, nor was he ever accused of doing so by any one present during that stop, not even by Mr. Daniels. If you are attempting to help Mr. Daniels I assure you this will cause him more harm than good. Grow up cupcake.

Everybody that work for

Everybody that work for hewett knew about this,Hewett fired this man, because he gave Salt Daniel a WARNING ticket. I thank he was coming from a brithday in Longwood, also Salt relatives always got by with evrything, when hewett was in office. You don't want Ronnie and Salt in office togather,Brunswick will be full of drugs again.Ingram trying clean it up Thank God.

Ingram cleaning things up???

Ingram cleaning things up??? You've got to be kidding me. You can say what you want about Ronnie and being arrested, but he was a very good sheriff

re: Comments made about Tim Daniels

People can say all sorts of anoymous lies about another person if they stand to gain from it. You should post the authors names, then you would get truer statements.

You look just a bit harder...

The author did put his name on it. So I am guessing you now believe it is a truer statment??

This is true, Sorry you

This is true, Sorry you don't know Salt.

Great undercover reporting

What a hard hitting story. Did WWAY do a criminal background check on both cadidate's facebook fans? When you have a fan page on Facebook, anybody can sign up to be your fan without your approval.
It's now clear who this news organization is supporting.
Do your homework on these candidates and ask as many people as you can what they know about these men. Trust me, you'll want to know as much as possible about these candidates before you vote. Remember, the news is nothing but entertainment.

Sheriff

I think Daniels would be a good sheriff.

Tim Daniels for Sheriff

Sgt. Daniels, We look forward to working with you when you are elected Sheriff. Finally, a man with morals as the Sheriff.

Tim Daniels for Sheriff

Tim, It will be a pleasure to vote for you, an honest man with integrity. No more backroom police mafia...You are so right for this job. You have my vote.

HAHAHA "Robbed from me"

HAHAHA "Robbed from me" Hewett you plead guilty how was it robbed from you?

Hewett,you robbed your own

Hewett, you robbed your own self, for the things you plead to. You need to forgive youself and other people, for whatever think they have done to you. Also, quit endorsing "salt", he plays a blind eye to the drugs in the Longwood community, at least Billy makes an effort to clean up the drugs, the mess you left behind. Salt will allow it to continue in Longwood

So glad I was not the only

So glad I was not the only one who got that!!! What part of "plead guilty" did he forget?? ROFLMAO!

MR Hewett you pled

MR Hewett you pled "GUILTY"...Looks like you robbed yourself...hahaha

Hewett

Unless you are the ones behind the closed doors don't pass judgement so fast. Deals are made everyday with our elected officials. Rex Gore , and many others make deals everyday.

Behind closed door...

He was an elected official. The public has every right to judge his performance as Sheriff. I can assure you he made that deal because it was in his best intrest. He admitted his guilt. At some point you are going to have to understand he was not a very good person. Open your eyes and take a look at the facts. His own friends turned on him. I had hoped that some time behind bars would have helped him man up, but based on his comment about being robbed, I would say it is the same old Ronnie. It takes a great deal of courage to change ones life, he has always lacked that quality.

Yeah PLEA deals are made

Yeah PLEA deals are made which means you take a lesser charge if you are guilty and you will admit to it; however, if you are NOT guilty then do not take the plea deal! If Hewett thought he was not guilty then he should not have taken the deal and had a trial and let the jury decide his verdict!!! Stop taking up for him because he is GUILTY

Plea Deals

Everyone seems to sound so righteous in their comments. What is the saying?, "He who is without sin cast the first stone". Wow, there are so many people out there that are sooo righteous, the County should be squeaky clean!

STONES?????

THEIR WOULD BE WAY TO MANY PEOPLE GOING TO THE DOCTOR IF WE STARTED CASTING STONES AROUND THIS TOWN. THE WHOLE TOWN IS TWO FACED AND BACK STABBERS. AS WELL AS CORROPTED.
MONEY TALKS A B.S WALKS. THATS THE WAY IT IS IN THIS TOWN. THE ONLY POLICE THAT ARNT THIS WAY ARE YOUR LOCAL STREET BEET COPS. ALL COUNTY COPS WOULD GET STONED TO DEATH.
