BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- The North Carolina Highway Patrol says that three people were killed and one was injured early Saturday morning after a pickup truck flipped over in Brunswick County.

Highway Patrol said the crash happened at about 2:30 in the morning on Malmo Loop Road in Leland. A 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck ran off the road, hit some posts at a church and overturned. The truck rolled twice before stopping completely.

The truck's driver, Michael Eric Johnston, along with two passengers, Aimee West Brown and Jennifer Wood Sessoms, were thrown from the vehicle and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Randall James Sessoms, the third passenger involved, was taken to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center and is said to be in stable condition.

Residents in the area of the crash site say they live in a very quiet area. They say the news of the fatal crash comes as a surprise to them because this sort of thing doesn't happen often in that area.

To other residents the tragedy hits closer to home. One resident has connections with two of the people involved.

Highway Patrol says the accident is still under investigation, but they believe that alcohol and high speed were a factor in the crash.

This is a sad situation. In

This is a sad situation. In the same sense, a bartender carries a lot more responsibility than simply pouring drinks. Those peoples lives were in his hands. Bars need to monitor as best they can the number of drinks a person has had and their behavior. There should be a cutoff limit. I appreciate his concern for them not driving however, how many times have people said they weren't going to drive? Was there transportation arranged for them? Obviously not. He has some responsibility here too. Praying for all of them.

What?

These peoples lives were in the hands of the bartender? How stupid is that? It's always somebody else that is to blame huh?

Sure this is terrible ..... HOWEVER .... people have to be accountable for their own actions period. They paid the ultimate price for a bad decision... a bad decision THEY made. Sad but true. Grow up.

FYI

§ 18B-124. Joint and several liability.
The liability of the negligent driver or owner of the vehicle that caused the injury and the
permittee or ABC board which sold or furnished the alcoholic beverage shall be joint and
several, with right of contribution

(a) Sale to Intoxicated Person. – It shall be unlawful for a permittee or his employee or
for an ABC store employee to knowingly sell or give alcoholic beverages to any person who is
intoxicated.

(b) Discretion for Seller. – Any person authorized to sell alcoholic beverages under this
Chapter may, in his discretion, refuse to sell to anyone. It shall be unlawful for any person to
knowingly buy alcoholic beverages for someone who has been refused the right to purchase
under this subsection.

....straight from the NCABC board.....yes the people who lost their lives made bad decisions but they were intoxicated, the bartender should have been sober (although that remains questionable in this establishment) & able to make the decision to not over serve the patrons. I can personally say I have seen more than 3 or 4 people carried out of there completely unconcious. That bar has NO limits at all & that is plainly shown in the pictures of overly intoxicated people on their facebook page!!!!

Get real people! How many

Get real people! How many times have you gone to Applebee's or other places and had several drinks, have you ever had any one ask you if you were ok to drive? Are you going to blame everyone else for you bad judgement. It all boils down to responsibility. If you go out to party have a DD. If the bartenter cuts you off, you will just have your friends go get your drinks for you. Until the law changes this will continue to happen. If you have a bad day and stop by the ABC store and drink while driving, you wreck, are you going to blame the ABC store?

In response to this law that

In response to this law that has been quoted. I had a brother that died as a passenger while drinking and driving. Yes very stupid on everyone's part. The real blame has to be put on these people that are now dead. They were adults that should have had enough sense and responsibility not to drink and drive or even get in a vehicle with someone who was driving. But my whole point being my brother left behind a 3 month old baby, my mother was able to sue the bar and the bartender for continuing to serve a person that was knowing drunk. She won and now my brothers child will be set for the rest of her life. So bartenders be very careful because in the end it can effect your life just as much as everyone else.....

So what?

My point is personal responsibility first. Word on paper didn't save the lives of these folks now did it? IF they had used better judgment then possibly they would be alive. I don't give a rats a$$ what law says what.... lack of common sense and personal responsibility will kill you real quick. Case in point here. Let's make more laws dictating that others are responsible for YOU. Won't work whether you think so or not. We are a country chock full of laws... big deal.

which bar....

Would that have been Kellys Sportsbar on old 87 or J.W.'s Place on 74? Both places are holes.

that would be Kelleys

that would be Kelleys

I go to Kelley's on the

I go to Kelley's on the weekends and it is alot nicer than the rat holes I've been to in Wilm. and every time i have had too much to drink they will take us home. Try finding a bar down town that will do that.
