NCDOT: Thawing and refreezing snow and ice will pose problem for several days

NC Department of Transportation crews continue to respond to the winter storm, which is having varying impacts not only in different regions of the state, but also within parts of the same county. Motorists are reminded to allow plenty of room for NCDOT trucks to plow and spread salt and sand.

The roads were covered with snow and ice this morning causing headaches for the morning commute. Drivers who did brave the icy roads had to be careful to get to their destination safely.

video It continues to be cold and wet outside as we continue on into the night. Many counties are seeing these conditions so the best idea is to stay inside. The North Carolina Department of Transportation's biggest concern is freezing rain and wet roads re-freezing. Freezing means the possibility of black ice on the roads that you may or may not see.

video Some parts of Pender County were among the hardest by snow in our area, to the tune of about six inches or more in many places. It was enough to close schools again tomorrow. And with most folks off of work as well today, it made for a great day to enjoy the snow day.
