Columbus County deputies search for murder suspect after deadly shooting in Whiteville

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a murder suspect following a deadly shooting in Whiteville.
According to the sheriff’s office, patrol deputies responded to a reported gunshot wound around June 11 at a residence located on Berry Lane.
When deputies arrived, they found a man identified as Raphael Gowans suffering from a gunshot wound. Gowans was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators with the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation and identified 18-year-old Eric Martin Jr. as the suspect in the case.
Authorities say Martin is currently wanted on outstanding warrants for first-degree murder. As of Friday, he had not been taken into custody.
