Suspect in custody after armed robbery at Wilmington convenience store

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A suspect is in custody after an armed robbery at a Wilmington convenience store Wednesday afternoon, according to the Wilmington Police Department.

Officers responded shortly after 12:30 p.m. to a reported armed robbery at the Scotchman convenience store located at 898 S. Kerr Ave.

Police said the suspect entered the business, showed a knife and stole two cans of beer before running away.

While officers were investigating the robbery and searching the surrounding area, they located the suspect and took the man into custody.

According to police, the suspect fought with officers during the arrest and assaulted law enforcement personnel, resulting in minor injuries to officers.

Investigators believe the suspect acted alone and said there is no ongoing threat to the public.

No word yet on the identity of the suspect.
