Tim Buckley joined WWAY in July of 2009, and can be seen each morning as the meteorologist and co-anchor on "Good Morning Carolina." Tim was awarded the prestigious Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal from the American Meteorological Society in 2011 and is the first meteorologist in Wilmington to hold this distinction.
A native of snowy upstate New York, Tim came to Wilmington after receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from Penn State University in May of 2009. While there, Tim served as the president of the Penn State Campus Weather Service, the largest student forecasting service in the world. He also served as a lead meteorologist for the "Centre County Report" and was a cast member on the program "Weather or Not." Tim also worked off-campus for AccuWeather during his time at Penn State, where he forecasted weather for clients across the United States and the world.
On Saturdays during the fall, Tim could be found on the field of Beaver Stadium in front of 110,000 people performing as a member of the Penn State Blue Band. Combining three of his passions (music, football, and traveling) the Blue Band was a no-brainer for Tim. During his four years he followed the Nittany Lions across the country to numerous away games, the Rose Parade, four bowl games and two Big Ten Championships.
Although it is not his favorite type of weather, it was snow that set Tim on his path toward meteorology. As a child, Tim saw an annual average of 200 inches of snow fall in his backyard in Pulaski, New York - a mecca for Lake Effect Snow. Needless to say, the warm coastal climate of Southeastern North Carolina is a big, but welcomed, change for Tim.
When he's not studying weather maps, Tim enjoys photography, music, traveling, spending days at the beach, as well as cheering on his favorite sports teams - The New York Yankees, The Buffalo Bills, and the Penn State Nittany Lions. Go State!
Tim is excited to be here in Wilmington and hopes to continue to enjoy the major treasures of our area for years to come.
