Two Union County men arrested in diamond thefts

CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) — Federal authorities say two Union County
men have been accused of participating in a nationwide diamond
    theft ring.

The Charlotte Observer reported that 25-year-old Victor James
Lupis of Monroe was arrested in Portland, Ore., following a
    December jewelry store robbery.

Authorities say Lupis posed as a customer and examined two rings
and ran from the store with them. The rings were valued at more
    than $147,000.

Police say Lupis told them that 27-year-old Trey Smith Adams of
Indian Trail had been near the store as a getaway driver.

Adams was being held in the Mecklenburg County jail. It was
unclear if he has an attorney.

Authorities say at least seven people were involved. Officials
say the diamonds were sold to a jeweler in Philadelphia and the
    proceeds were divided.
