WILMINGTON, NC, (StarNewsOnline.com) — Developer and philanthropist Bruce Barclay Cameron Jr. died Wednesday in Wilmington, friends of the family confirmed. He was 95.
Cameron was born Sept. 6, 1917, in Wilmington, the son of Bruce B. Cameron and Lottie Fales. His father was mayor of Wilmington at the time of his death on July 17, 1944, and was a local auto parts and oil distributor who helped build the Cape Fear Terminal.
With his younger brother Dan, Cameron grew up in the Dry Pond neighborhood of Wilmington and spent much time with his grandparents on Masonboro Sound – where, according to George W. Wilcox in “The Camerons of Wilmington,” he developed a lifelong love of hunting and the outdoors.
