WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — A Whiteville police officer was indicted by Columbus County Grand Jury on several charges Wednesday.
Sgt. Aaron Herring of the Whiteville Police Department has been charged with simple assault, willful fail discharge of duties, and obstruction of justice.
Police Chief Jeffrey Rosier, Sr. says these allegations are result of a criminal investigation conducted by the SBI.
Chief Rosier said Sgt. Herring has been placed on non-disciplinary paid administrative leave until the conclusion of the trial and administrative investigation.
A court date is currently pending.
