WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The woman who made a call to 911 after shooting her husband pleaded guilty to second degree murder.
Jennifer Crampton, 30, of Sanford, shot her husband Robert Dale Crampton on November 2, 2015.
Following the shooting, in an emotional 911 call, she told the operator she shot a man.
“What part of the body was injured?” the operator asked.
Robert Crampton died at the hospital. Just hours before the shooting, the couple signed a custody agreement in a Pender County courtroom. The agreement reinstated Robert’s visitation with their 3-year-old son.
“I wasn’t going to let him hurt my son anymore,” Jennifer Crampton told 911.
According to the district attorney’s office, after their custody order was modified, Jennifer Crampton met her husband at his home in Castle Hayne and shot him with a revolver she had taken from her parents’ home in Lee County.
The child was not there during the shooting.
Robert Crampton’s family now has custody of the couple’s son.
Judge Imelda Pate sentenced Crampton to between 16 and 21 years in prison.
